After months of preparation, Jamaica’s senior men and women teams are set to compete at the 19th Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Senior Volleyball Championships, scheduled for August 16-24, 2025 in Nassau, Bahamas.
Jamaica, the defending women’s champions, created history at the 2023 staging by claiming the country’s first senior title at the CAZOVA Women’s Championship. They defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-2 (25-21, 15-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13) in a nail-biting five-set thriller in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Leading the charge for Jamaica’s women is Mychael Vernon, the Most Valuable Player of the 2023 Championship. She returns from her professional season in Italy in an attempt to inspire another title run. She is joined by Sashalee Thomas, the 2023 CAZOVA best opposite player, and Anesia Edwards, the 2023 second-best middle blocker.
On the men’s side, the team returns to the championship with unfinished business after a fifth-placed finish in 2023 when Jamaica lost an unforgettable five-set quarter-final battle to the eventual champions Suriname.
Back to lead the fight are Ryck Webb, the best server of the 2023 edition, and Mark Blake, the best middle blocker at that tournament. Both standouts from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) bring leadership, power, and the hunger to rewrite history.
