JOA lauds Davis Cup team’s achievement

THE JAMAICA Olympic Association (JOA) is lauding the efforts of Jamaica’s Davis Cup team which made its way into Group II of the competition after a 3-2 win over Estonia at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre on Sunday.

“Creating history, blazing the trail and pioneering feats are what the Jamaica Olympic Association encourages and advocates in our strategic efforts to transition and advance athletes of our member associations on the global stage and Randy, Blaise, Jacob, John and Daniel have responded emphatically,” said the organisation’s president, Samuda.

According to a release from the JOA, the win is an example of the way the JOA’s investment in Olympic sports has been reaping fruit.

“The governing body for Olympic Sports continues to pursue successfully an investment strategy in sport of building capacity and strengthening talent across the board,” read the release.

According to JOA Secretary General/CEO Ryan Foster, that investment strategy is “natural and instinctive for we are deeply committed to the development of talent and are in the business of giving viable options and converting opportunities”.

The release went on to highlight the JOA’s investment in tennis, especially in the wake of its sponsorship of the Davis Cup qualifier.

But according to Samuda, the work doesn’t end with the Davis Cup, it also includes the Olympics and maybe even more.

“The trajectory must now be to the Olympic Games with milestone stops at Grand Slams,” said Samuda.
