President Tricia Robinson says Netball Jamaica (NJ) has been approached by persons within the diaspora who would like to assist the association by hosting a fundraiser to purchase a new team bus.
NJ’s two Toyota Coaster buses, used to transport the national teams to and from training and matches, were stolen from Netball House, the team’s official base in St Andrew on August 15.
Robinson told The Gleaner that the persons reaching out are from Florida and New York.
But she says that NJ is also planning its own local fundraiser.
One of the stolen buses was donated by the Jamaica Public Service and the other by FLOW. Both were comprehensively insured.
“We have to wait on the insurance companies, because an investigator has been appointed and she is currently conducting interviews,” Robinson said.
“I am really hoping that things will work out pretty soon for us. We have sent in all the required reports and police statements, so they have begun their investigations, but we don’t know how long this is going to take to finish.”
The Jamaica Olympic Association, in the interim, has loaned NJ its own bus, which will be used to take the Sunshine Girls to training as they continue their preparations for a tri-nation series in Jamaica, featuring Trinidad and Tobago and South Africa in October.
